In something of a departure from the style of previous articles on this blog, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are on tour again at the moment and I managed to see the first night, at Brighton Dome on Friday 29 October 2010. Here are a few shots taken from the balcony during the show and they give a good idea of the elaborate lighting rig for the stage set on this tour. A good set too with a mixture of tracks from the new album plus most of the hits and some nice early surprises such as ‘Bunker Soldiers’.
I can’t believe that OMD are finally crossing the pond and I have VIP tickets. It’s about time! I’ve not seen them since the Crush tour in ’85/’86. Of course, the venue they’re playing in the States is much more intimate than the arenas they’ve been playing at home, so I doubt if there’ll be much elaborate staging as seen here. The venue in Atlanta only holds 650 SRO. But in a time dominated by HOM I’m incredibly buzzed by this and the two month wait s almost too much to bear. The upside on the wait is that I’m slightly less likely to be snowed in and unable to make the four hour trip to Atlanta in Mid-March… in theory.
Nice shots – what row were you on the balcony? I was front row centre! I uploaded a couple of my videos from this concert to YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB3000D7ED08703F3
I must have been pretty close by then, as I was also front row balcony!
