Definitely one for the the dedicated Eno fan in search of a small object of desire, this 3″ CD single was issued in 1989 on the then popular smaller CD format. The front cover features a still from the opening credits of the UK programme ‘Arena’ from the BBC, which had used the title track from Eno’s ‘Another Green World’. Quite why it was seen fit to bash this out on a CD single I can’t recall, one imagines that the record buying public weren’t champing at the bit for such a release – nevertheless, it has its charms.
As well as ‘Another Green World’ itself, it comes with three other tracks in what is a fairly eclectic selection of instrumental works;
- Dover Beach (originally from the ‘Jubilee’ film soundtrack album)
- Deep Blue Day (from the ‘Apollo’ album)
- ‘2/1’ (from the ‘Music for Airports’ album)
As you can see in the images, the continuity of the design from the album artwork has been preserved to some extent in retaining some of the typographic elements. The use of the still from the ‘Arena’ opening credits is a nice touch, it had been something of an iconic sequence for some years, so nice to see it preserved here.
Nice to see this featured since I bought mine when it was released. I wanted the “Jubilee” OST cut, and a good thing too, since I never saw any copies of that album. I have about 50-60 CD3s. What a lovely format. I remember having dreams about seeing CD3 re-issues of Virgin era Cabaret Voltaire singles just prior to the CD3 rollout. Yes, I am a record geek.
I have something of a sweet tooth for 3″ CD singles, though not the most practical of things these days, not if you are an iMac user anyway…
Actually, I moved to an iMac in 2008 after being a top of the line guy from day one. Unless you’re rendering 3D or cutting a film, anything else is overkill. Fortunately, my DVD player in the living room has a TOSLINK output if I need to rip a CD3 to my iMac [and I often do].
I found a copy of this cd3 in perfect condition.is anyone interested?
