Can hardly believe it has taken this long to get round to posting the first in a series of button badge goodness from one of my all time favourite acts, Bauhaus…
This first badge in the selection features an archive photo from a theatre production produced by Oskar Schlemmer, from the original Bauhaus period – I first came across it with its use on the cover of the book ‘Performance: Live Art, 1909 to the Present’, by Roselee Goldberg, from 1979 – the band plundered a detail of this photo for press adverts for the ‘Spirit’ single in 1982 but which wasn’t used on the final (rather disappointing, if I may say) sleeve design.
Second up, a fairly common badge design that uses the front cover design from ‘The Sky’s Gone Out’.
Third up, a particularly treasured item, I bought this from the merch stall (along with a ‘Burning From The Inside’ badge set which will feature in a future post) when I saw the band on their final UK tour in June 1983 before they split up for the first time.
This fourth one is one of those I picked up along the way back in the day, not much of note to add about the design… not the greatest likeness to Peter Murphy!
Last but not least, a design that takes a small detail from the ‘In The Flat Field’ album cover (and was used on the press adverts more prominently), the ‘gargoyle’ image.
