One to sate the sweet tooth of any fan of all things 7″ and collectable in the world of Ultravox, this was a West German only release that paired a fairly raucous LP cut, ‘Frozen Ones’, along with an exclusive remix of one of Ultravox’s finest moments on the flip side, in the shape of ‘Man Who Dies Everyday’ – and all finished off nicely in a unique picture sleeve design – manna from heaven for scratching that collector’s itch – if you can find a copy, as it’s not too easy to come by.
The remix of ‘Man Who Dies Everyday’ is excellent – not radically different, but enough streamlining and tinkering to be noticeable and to add some some oomph – fortunately, it was released digitally with the CD re-issue of ‘Ha!-Ha!-Ha!’ in 2008 (Japanese mini-LP edition covered previously), so this became less of a rarity no doubt. Nevertheless, a nice little artefact of the time for all that. More Ultravox! 7″ goodness coming soon…
I paid a pretty penny for my mint copy around 1997 and it was money well spent. It doesn’t get any better than a unique German-only version of my favorite Ultravox! song for a unique German only release of “The Frozen Ones” with a unique picture sleeve! And for the record, I always thought of this as an alternate version, not a remix. I’d swear that the vocal is a completely different take; though the backing track could be a remix.
