Ultravox! ’12” Mini-Album’ Australian Mini-LP (Island/Festival, L 20003 / IEL-8)

On first sight you’d be forgiven for thinking that you are just looking at the regular UK 7″ of Ultravox!’s ‘Retro’ live EP from 1978…

But look closer though and you’ll then notice that only the ‘Ultravox!’ text is included (no Live / Retro text) and there is also a ‘Mini LP’ logo. Continue reading “Ultravox! ’12” Mini-Album’ Australian Mini-LP (Island/Festival, L 20003 / IEL-8)”

Love and Rockets ‘If There’s A Heaven Above’ Canadian 12″ Remix single, (Vertigo/Beggars Banquet, SOVX 2363)

I’m putting together a longer post looking at the various releases on CD of ‘Seventh Dream Of Teenage Heaven’, which was the first album by Love and Rockets, but ahead of that, a quick focus on a Canadian 12″ remix edition of the first single from the album, ‘If There’s A Heaven Above’.

This Canadian 12″ issue is radically different in all respects from the UK editions. For starters, the A side features a remix of the song (titled ‘U.S. Mix’ on the label, timed at 4 mins 26 secs), while the B side features ‘Inside The Outside’, which in the UK was released on the B side of the various versions of the earlier ‘Ball Of Confusion’ single instead. Skids ‘The Absolute Game’ original album label designs

Some months back I promised that as well as publishing some details on the CD issues of the Skids album ‘The Absolute Game’ I would post some photos of the original album art, for comparison – so anyone who is not familiar with the original album (and free album) can get an idea of details such as the label designs, inserts and even a badge of the period that was available courtesy of the merchandise sheet slipped into the album copies.

Wire ‘Eardrum Buzz’ clear vinyl 7″ single (Mute, MUTE 87)

An odd little curio this one – I don’t recall it having been available when the single was first released in 1989 and I came across it a couple of years later courtesy of ‘Record Collector’ magazine, where it was advertised as a ‘withdrawn’ release. Given that Wire had already singed their fingers with the ill-fated ‘Outdoor Miner’ white vinyl single (excluded from its rightful chart position due to hyping allegations), perhaps this was culled at birth to avoid any similar troubles… who knows?

It is no different from the regular 7″ release other than the see-through nature of the vinyl, so its one for collectable vinyl junkies only, I dare say. Continue reading “Wire ‘Eardrum Buzz’ clear vinyl 7″ single (Mute, MUTE 87)”

The Passions ‘Love Is Essential’/’Jump For Joy’ French promo-only 7″ (Polydor 2814 357)

A promo-only 7″ of French origin, peeled from the third album by The Passions pairing the album track ‘Love Is Essential’ along with ‘Jump For Joy’, which had appeared early in 1982 as a single A side in the UK.

I picked it up at a record fair in Dundee in the early 1990s, I’ve no idea how common or rare these are – probably not much due to the lack of a picture sleeve and, as far as I can tell, the versions are the same as per the album mixes.
